A diversity perspective to a social service design case
Brenda Pignol Ramos, Cecilia Policastro
We would like to show you how we understand diversity from an intersectional approach and how the perspective of diversity can enrich and maximize the experiences of all users. We will share our approach based on a concrete case from which we were able to comprehensively diagnose the roaming mammography service provided by Avon and LALCEC in Argentina for women between ages 40 and 65 who lack medical coverage. By means of social service design, we worked in detecting the limits faced by the following user profiles and providing a strategic improvement plan: people with motor disabilities in their upper and/or lower limbs, short people, fat-bodied people, blind and weak vision people, deaf and weak hearing people, intellectually disabled people, the elderly, structurally/technologically poor people, illiterate and poor-connectivity people, and trans males. We would like to share our methodology and the contribution/view of each of the five professionals on our team. We also would like to share the learning experiences of our clients once we presented our diagnostic to them and they understood what we meant when talking about a "diversity perspective".
