For an eco-decolonial design

Coral Michelin

2021. More than 520 years have passed since the invasions of the American continent, and we find ourselves in the south discussing a Green New Deal and a New European Bauhaus established and negotiated from and for the north. This happening meanwhile climate change keeps accelerating its pace of no return, its consequences impacting mainly the "old colonies": Africa, Latin America and India. When are we going to wake up? Eco-decolonial is a provoking moniker for a design approach that, based on the ancestral traditions, cultures and ideas of pre-colonial lands, aims in the first place at rooting our way of thinking in its own land; aims at returning the gold to these lands. So we can then dream and design futures from the south, for the south and the rest of the world. Eco-decolonial is an inherently eco-friendly, diverse and social practice of design. The goal of this presentation, beyond opening old wounds, is to communicate the basics for all of us to think, together from north to south, on this design, able to contribute to an awakening, to good living, and to the creation of regenerated futures.
